London-based trip hop trio Nedry are comprised of Ayu Okakita, Chris Amblin and Matt Parker. Already popular in the UK, they are now releasing their debut CD, "Condors", in North America.
This is not your average trip hop (whatever that is) album, but Nedry have fabricated their own sound that combines dubstep, electronica and even folk influences. You will hear some Portishead, Bjork and Radiohead influences, but if you are going to follow along in the tradition of previous musicians they are not a bad way to go.
While the instrumentation is wonderful with all its odd guitar work and infective drum beats, what makes it all warm and cuddly is the vocal work by Ayu Okakita. The music is decidedly dark and what makes it bearable is her sublime voice. "Apples and Pears" is my favourite track on the album.
It is hard to believe that this is their first album. All the tracks show a confidence beyond their experience. They seem to know exactly what they want to do with each song.
