This film comes from that long line of cinematic creations that are neither works of art nor ones that will make you want to run from the room. In other words this is a "medium" kind of film. "Tooth Fairy", starring former professional wrestler Dwayne Johnson playing against character (kind of), is that kind of harmless film which is enjoyable to watch if you are in the right frame of mind, but will not change your life.

Playing an intimidating brand of hockey for the Icicles, Derek Thompson (Dwayne Rock - The Other Guys, Planet 51) is known as the "Tooth Fairy" as he has a habit of knocking out opposing players' teeth with a single body check. A player who did not make the most of his opportunity in the NHL, Derek is an older guy still toiling in the minor leagues. He seems to have accepted this and his role on the team and relishes in the attention he get from being a goon. His skills as a pugilist and hard nosed player have won him a legion of fans.

His coach (Barclay Hope - Paycheck) assigns Derek the task of being the bodyguard of up-and-coming young star centreman, Mick Donnelly (Ryan Sheckler - Street Dreams). Derek has a little trouble with the attitude of the young star and the fact that he is taking over as the team's most popular player.

Bringing his frustrations home, Derek tells his girlfriend Carly's (Ashley Judd - De-Lovely, Frida) young daughter Tess (Destiny Whitlock) that there is no such thing as the Tooth Fairy. Carly throws him out of her house angry. That night Derek does not have a good night sleep. When he wakes up things go from bad to worse when he discovers that somehow overnight he has become a Tooth Fairy.

Derek has been found guilty of disseminating disinformation and is punished. He is sentenced to two weeks of being a Tooth Fairy. After his initial struggle with it, Derek begins his training to become a Tooth Fairy.

It is going to be difficult for this hockey player to keep from his coach, teammates, the fans, and most importantly Carly (who he has made up with) and her kids the fact that he now has wings and is a Tooth Fairy. These are going to be the longest two weeks of Derek Thompson's life.

No doubt about it this is just a light time filler. Though it is only 90 minutes long it still feels a little drawn out at times. All of the humour comes from the idea of such a large, tough man as Dwayne Johnson sprouting wings and flying around in a tutu. After a while, unfortunately for the viewer, this novelty wears off and you are left with a fairly weak and predictable story.

Kids will be entertained by the film. A large man with wings flying around is enough for them. It also features some good life lessons for the wee ones which will make parents happy.
