The moment I walked into the FunkyTown Disco Bar, I immediately felt this almost surreal feeling that I had been transported 20 years back in time. The glittering sights and decor of the establishment harked back to a time where joy was once synonymous with style. The music also sparked this long forgotten and most welcome nostalgia for the disco era. An extra special salute must be given to Saturday Night regular CKMF DJ “Ricky Dee”, and AC Louis  for providing the perfect groove of music that kept the place  hopping from opening to closing hours. I was most fortunate to have been seated smack centre in the place, with a bird’s eye of view of the action. For a moment, it felt like I was seated at the legendary Studio 54 in New York. People were partying all around me and seemed to be having a blast of a good time. The bustling crowds didn’t seem to bother anyone at all. The more the merrier was par for the course this evening, especially for those looking to meet new people. As a non-smoker, I feared I might be inundated with cigarette smoke. However, graced with an amazing sign of the times, the FunkyTown Disco Bar boasts perhaps one of the finest ventilation systems in the city. I barely noticed the smoke. Even the basic room temperature, which one would expect to be rather high, was more than pleasant.

With three fully stocked bar stations about the place, I never found myself lacking or waiting long to be served. The very friendly and cordial waiting staff surpassed any of my expectations. FunkyTown strikes me as the perfect place to meet new people, or to take that special someone out for a good time, or even simply to have fun with your best of friends. If you’re in a dancing mood and looking for the best tunes to hustle to, this is the place. The bar also features this extremely cool and retro plexiglass-type floor with bright neon lights emanating from underneath, reminding me of that classic 70s disco era film, “Saturday Night Fever”. The coup de grace is that chilling moment when the smoke machine performs its magic alongside perfectly timed spinners, and reflected crystal and disco ball lights. In the midst of all of this was a young woman’s bachelorette party . The gathering didn’t miss a beat and the bar seemed the ideal place for such an outing. FunkyTown has built it's reputation as Montreal’s best-ever disco bar. From what I’ve seen so far, I’d definitely be inclined to agree. If you want to have a good time and mingle with Montreal’s most happening people, this is the place to be. I know where I’m going to be this coming weekend.
