I was initially interested in watching this film because my girlfriend read the book and she quite enjoyed it. I knew the film was universally regarded as a "chick flick" but never the less, it piqued my curiosity. What may have worked marvelously for Rebecca Well's in text did not succeed equally on the screen. I know, a lot of you may think that the poignant sensitive instances in the film flashed by me. But let me assure you that although the acting was superb, I was not compelled by the story's drawn out plot. The movie is centered around the Ya-Ya sisters, Caro (Maggie Smith), Necie (Shirley Knight) and Teensy (Fionnula Flanagan) and fellow sister and mother (Vivi) played through the years by Caitlin Wachs, Ashley Judd and Ellen Burstyn and her daughter Sidda Lee Walker played by Sandra Bullock. After sitting through a mish mash of retro to pre-retro to present scenes I was getting rather tired and confused. However, the question is will sentimentalists everywhere forgive the film's flaws in favor of the films convincing tour de force cast, check it out and let me know.
