1981's Re-Ac-Tor grabs you right away with the opening track "Op-er-ra Star." The heavy guitar that is synonymous with Neil Young and Crazy Horse is only overshadowed by Young's nasal voice belting out the lyrics. This album feels like it has a massive amount of barely contained energy lying just under the surface. There are no mellow acoustic songs that allow the listener to relax and decompress. Instead, you are hit hard from the first notes until the end of the album. one particularly notable track is the seven minute finale; "Shots." This is definitely Neil Young at his hardest hitting, voice- warbling, and distorted guitar best. Hear this album -mastered and released for the first time on CD.
