The Klezmatics

Ever heard of Klezmer music? It is known to be the traditional dance music of eastern European Jews. The group's members are David Krakauer (bass clarinet), Lorin Sklamberg (accordion), Margot Leverett (clarinet), Alicia Svingals (fiddle), Frank London (trumpet / piano), and David Litcht (drums). This group puts a very unique spin on traditional folk style music. Their lyrics reflect political and social issues and have been labeled "the planet's radical Jewish roots band." The songs combine English verses blended with Hebrew. The group gets off to a feisty start with the fast paced "Man In A Hat" followed by "Fisherlit," which runs at a lengthy eight minutes. But the instrumentation sounds good so it's a plesant listen. "Romanian Fantasy" is enchanting. The group gets wild and whacky on the track "Honga." Just by listening to this group, you can tell they must be having lots of fun with music. It's very off the wall, and just totally different from anything we are used to hearing.
