This inspiring story about Ray Charles is brought together with an amazing performance by Jamie Foxx (as Ray Charles) and with a solid soundtrack. Unlike most retrospective films on musicians, this soundtrack does not feature re-recorded songs. Director/producer Taylor Hackford felt the score would be more authentic if they used Ray Charles' original recordings. The result is a 17 song soundtrack featuring songs from Ray Charles' peak, from the 1950's to the 1960's. While the album does not contain all of Ray Charles' greatest hits, it does feature his best known songs: "I Got a Woman", "(Night Time Is) The Right Time", "Georgia On My Mind" and of course "Hit The Road Jack". There are also live performances of "Hallelujah I Love Her So", "What'd I Say" and "I Can't Stop Loving You". This album is definitely a great representation of the highlights of Ray Charles' musical career.
