Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone star in this fact-based story about the casino empires of Las Vegas in the seventies. Martin Scorsese never fails to bring the look and the feel of the Italian mob scene and he does it in grand style in the casinos of Las Vegas.
The story opens with narration by Robert De Niro's character, Sam 'Ace' Rothstein, as he walks up to his car and we see it explode in slow motion. The fact that he is narrating the scene is a small clue that the explosion did not manage to kill him. From there the story backtracks to Rothstein's somewhat humble beginnings as he becomes the owner of the Tangiers casino. Pesci's character, Nicky Santoro, then takes over the narration revealing the relationship between himself and Rothstein. The story goes back and forth between the two, interspersed with voice-overs and a great soundtrack made up largely of seventies rock bands. As their individual enterprises become more and more powerful, Sam and Nicky's relationship evolves and then of course there's Ginger, a beautiful blond hustler, who eventually gets in between the two. Loads of drugs, violence, heaps of cash and jewels are all thrown into the mix.
