The Island

This sci-fi action thriller stars Lincoln Six-Echo (Ewan McGregor) and Jordan Two-Delta (Scarlett Johansson) who are living amongst a community of people that are actual clones of real individuals. All are dressed in white jumpsuits; their eating habits controlled and their every move is monitored. The replicas have been told that they are survivors of what is now a contaminated world and their only hope left is to be selected by lottery for a one way trip to The Island, the last uncontaminated place left on earth. Lincoln starts having nightmares which leads him to question his existence and this whole Island mumbo jumbo that has been concocted by the head of the Institute, Merrick (Sean Bean). His curiosity leads to a wild ride of car chases, gun battles, explosions and a notable double role performance by McGregor when his owner Tom Lincoln comes face to face with his "insurance policy".

This movie has numerous mind-blowing action sequences that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the film. The suspense will keep you glued to the screen and some witty and amusing remarks have been added here and there to momentarily lighten the mood of the film. While the acting is good, the real strength of this movie is the plot of the story as it makes us question cloning and the effects or repercussions that may arise. The Island is a must see.
