This former lead singer of The Kinks has finally released his first solo outing a good 10 years after the last Kinks record. "Other Peoples Lives" reminds us of his talent and makes some of us wistful about what could have been if he had been recording all along. The 13 songs on the album use the familiar, for Ray Davies, themes of melancholy and being self-reflective. Fans of The Kinks will recognize the typical verses that build to a sing-a-long chorus; Ray Davies has been away, but he has not changed. Work like this will make his fans hope it is not another decade in between albums.
