The Little Willies

Yah hoooo! Welcome to this year's catchiest country / blues album to date. This quintet from New York City plays a western swing that may even move New York City denizens onto the dance floor. Norah Jones (vocals, piano) tries on a cowboy hat and it fits like a glove; yes, her voice is still distinguished and easy on the ears. The band includes: Lee Alexander (bass), Jim Campilongo (electric guitar), Richard Julian (guitar, vocals) and Dan Rieser (drums). The Little Willies named after Willie Nelson formed in 2003. This album features both originals and covers such as Hank Williams' "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive" and "Roly Poly," Kris Kristofferson's "Best Of All Possible Worlds"; Townes Van Zandt's "No Place to Fall"; Leiber & Stoller's "Love Me" (often performed by Elvis Presley) and Willie Nelson's "I Gotta Get Drunk" and "Nightlife." The band's catchy originals include: "It's Not You It's Me" and the flowing "Roll On," and the weepy "Easy as the Rain," this 13 track disc concludes with the funniest and catchiest song I've heard all year. The chorus goes like this, "we swear to god, we saw Lou Reed cow tipping." The song is of course called "Lou Reed." If you enjoy infectious music and are open to all genres of music then add The Willies to your music shopping list; this CD is fabulous.
