Wow! The 70s music-wise is really back en vogue! This is another band that is not afraid to show their reverence for the decade of free love and music that pushed the envelope. Widespread Panic has been around since the late 80s and I have to admit this is the first time I've ever heard of them. After recording 15 albums you would think that they would have somehow been on my radar, but nope….oh well, no one's perfect! They are definitely a guitar-based band but they keep things interesting by meshing different types of instruments within their songs. The fact that they are not interested in making hit singles but rather a good album is apparent from their very first track "Second Skin", which is 11 minutes long. It will never be played on radio but it is still a good song and they show they are not willing to compromise. If you are a fan of 70s bands like The Allman Brothers, Lynard Skynard or the like then you should check this one out.
