When you read the liner notes and come to realize that the members of the band are deeply religious then it comes as a surprise when you pop the CD in and hear death metal. It was not what I was expecting. I guess this is really a case of you can't judge a book by its cover. If you were a fan of the band's first album you too will be surprised by the content of this album as they have seemingly metamorphosized into a completely different band. On their previous release they were definitely in the pop metal genre and now they have changed to a more heavy metal oriented band. Underoath's album is a louder outing full of loud crunchy guitar riffs and throaty vocals. Through all the screaming there are some melodies within a number of the tracks. On the down side many of the songs sound too alike.
