It has been 4 years since we have had any new material from this Canadian singer/songwriter/pianist. She just took time off to have two children and during that time off she wrote songs for Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne. A pretty impressive bunch of names for her resume. Oddly enough it was her contribution to other artists’ albums that allowed her the creative freedom from her label to make the kind of album she’s always wanted to. First off, she got her husband Raine Maida (from Our Lady Peace) to produce the album and recorded it at home. Despite the success of her first single, “All I Can Do”, which might turn out to be her biggest hit, the rest of the album is definitely not made with radio play or hit single in mind. The rest of the album is along the lines of a kind of pseudo Tori Amos CD. There are no guitars on the album, just her piano and some lovely string arrangements, intimate and mature lyrics and that great emotion-filled powerful voice we have come to expect from her. While this album might not translate into commercial success it definitely is an artistic one.
