DJ Shadow has decided to jump on the hip hop bandwagon with his latest outing. Besides his usual stylings at the turntable, he is accompanied by different rappers on his tracks. The album is slightly multiple personality-ish in sound as it is at times seemingly just a mish mash of different sounds. So much so that you'll feel like screaming "Make a choice" out loud to your CD player. DJ Shadow has built his reputation on being innovative and underground, but this album sounds like he is trying desperately to get radio play and money from our pockets. It definitely is a more commercial album. If he was trying to break new ground then we would applaud him, but it sounds as if he is trying to lump himself into the already overcrowded hip hop arena.
