The present has not been kind to Everclear. They were very popular in the 1990s, but come the turn of the millennium they have fallen on low sales times. Their last album did not sell and disappointed long time fans. Internal conflict led to drummer Greg Eklund and bassist Craig Montoya leaving the band and only remaining original member, guitarist/vocalist Art Alexakis went through bankruptcy and divorce. Times were tough. Alexakis grouped together four new bandmates, signed with a new label and started recording. The new Everclear relies less on bass and drums and more on keyboards to flesh out their sound. It results in a more low-key sound. Lyrically the album is not the best writing by Alexakis, but what band today does not focus on love and heartbreak? Here's hoping that this recording leads to a brighter future for the band.
