As part of the year round events that the people at Nuits D'Afrique provide us with they are bringing in on Sunday evening to Kola Note all the way from Palestine, Trio Joubran. Trio Joubran are three brothers, Samir, Wissam and Adnan, born in Nazareth who all play the oud. The oud is a Middle Eastern stringed instrument, which has some similarities to the guitar, but it is older. Musicians practically from birth as their father makes ouds and their mother sings, the oldest, Samir, is a graduate of the Abdul Wahhab Conservatory in Cairo and is known as a virtuoso on the oud. Samir became a hero in his native land as he was the only artist making music outside of Palestine. He has collaborated with famous poets, filmmakers and choreographers in his career. The middle brother, Wissam, was trained in Italy not only how to play but also in the art of making ouds. As the baby, Adnan is seen as a prodigy.
After first starting Joubran as a duo with his brother Wissam, in 2004 Adnan joins and they become Trio Joubran. When the brothers take the stage together there is an interconnection, intensity and passion that is not often seen. All their music is written by Samir, but the three take turns playing the lead. They are hailed throughout the Arab world and are now coming to North America to share their talent with us. As a special note: 10% of the ticket sales will go towards AMP (Aide Medicale pour Palestine).
