It is not often that a musician undertakes a world tour in order to benefit a disease, especially when that disease is not one of the 'sexy' ones such as cancer or AIDS. Bouriema Touré from Mali is playing shows around the world in order to benefit malaria. While malaria might be unheard of in this part of the world it is a big problem in Africa where Touré is from. You might be scratching your head wondering where you have heard the name of this artist before…well, he was previously well-known under the name Vieux Farka Touré and his father was the internationally known musician Ali Farka Touré.
Playing his own original type of 'Sahara' music which is a mixture of blues, reggae, rock, funk, and traditional Malayan music, he is the true pioneer of this style of music. Touré has just released a self-titled album and the tour will feature music from it. Ten percent of the sales of this album will go to the UNICEF division which deals with the fight against malaria in the region of Niafunké, where Touré was born. Besides being a singer/composer/songwriter, Touré also is a master guitar player and percussionist. Come out to the concert to support the fight against malaria and the people at Nuits D'Afriques who bring us such marvellous talent from all over the world the year round. Oh! And you also get and evening of wonderful music!
