This bleak 1985 play about two families in the United States is ultimately a critique of the portion of the country (the rugged west) it takes place in. The families, one from California and one from Montana, are linked by the marriage of their children Beth and Jake. Somehow both of the two poor white families involved seemed to have forgotten that the two are married. This is definitely not a happily ever after story.
