During his 25 year music career Billy Bragg has gained the reputation of mixing music and politics. He instills some conscience into everything he does and reminds people that the British radical dissenting tradition is still alive and well.
Beginning his career during the British punk era, Bragg fronted his own band in the beginning before striking out solo in the 1980s. Influenced by American Blues and folk music, he wrote songs filled with humour, intelligence and undying passion. Many of his songs addressed his strong feelings towards politics and activism. He has spoken out against racism, homophobia, sexism, and fascism at different points during his career. The cycle of endless touring began during this period.
A malleable and well-respected musician, he has toured with the likes of The Smiths, Madness, The Style Council, and The Communards as well as working with Natalie Merchant, Michael Stipe, Johnny Marr, and Wilco. This talented musician has come a long way from his days of busking on the streets of London.
