Together as a group since 1939, The Blind Boys of Alabama have combined traditional and contemporary gospel music. Over the 70 years band members have changed and music technology has changed, but what has remained consistent has been the devoted following of their worldwide fans.
Though the music remains rooted in the Gospel traditions, The Blind Boys of Alabama (led by original member and vocalist Jimmy Carter) have experimented with sound over their lengthy career. The essence of their sound is a four-part vocal harmony. The contrast between the different vocalists' voices is what makes it so interesting. Their music is not only about religion, but rather about singing songs with positive messages for this band. The band does inspirational music that lifts the hearts of the listeners.
An inspiration and influence for many present-day artists, The Blind Boys of Alabama have performed/recorded with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Ben Harper, Peter Gabriel, and Lou Reed. It is not often that you get to see true musical legends, so do not let the opportunity pass.
