The theme for this weekend in Montreal, at the Old Port at least, is 'no problem, man' as that laid back vibe will be on display during the annual Montreal Reggae Festival. This is the fifth year that the festival will be held at the Old Port and it is a wise choice as it is the most beautiful outdoor concert location on the island of Montreal. There's plenty of room to walk around, sit down and dance to great reggae music.
The festival will feature some of the world's best reggae performers (Steel Pulse, etc.) with plenty of representation by artists from Canada (Juno Award-winner Mikey Dangerous, Jah Cutta, etc.). In between each of the reggae sets there will be a DJ or soundcrew there to keep the music pumpin'. No lulls. Dancing is possible all day long. Beginning early in the afternoon and ending late under the stars there will be continuous reggae music for three straight days.
Don't stay away because you don't have any cash. There is free music going on daily from noon until six o'clock at the Loto Quebec Stage.
There will also be shows happening off site all weekend at the House of Reggae on St. Denis, at Alize Showbar on Ontario, Pub St-Ciboire on St. Denis, and the EB Clublounge on deMaisonneuve. It truly will be a reggae weekend in Montreal.
There is something for the entire family at this festival. Whether you are looking for good music, a beautiful outdoor venue by the water, great Caribbean food, reggae t-shirts and other memorabilia, or just a chance to hang out with some of the coolest people on the planet that will all be there at the Montreal Reggae Festival.
