Rogers Cup Tennis Tournament Preview

Montreal's Rogers Cup Tennis Tournament has over the years become one of the biggest hardcourt warm-ups before the U.S. Open and a players' favourite stop. For these reasons for tennis fans in Montreal and the surrounding areas this is a must see week of tennis.

The men are in Toronto this year so it is the women's turn to visit our city. Because of the proximity to the U.S. Open many big names sign up for the tournament. Whether they show up, especially in the case of the women, is another story. There is also the double whammy of being a mere two weeks before the Olympic Games. This year, however, many of the Top 20 players have indicated that they are coming.

Some of the Players Attending:
1) Ana Ivanovic (Ranked no. 1)
2) Venus Williams (7th)
3) Maria Sharapova (3rd)
4) Jelena Jankovic (2nd)
5) Dinara Safina (9th)
6) Elena Dementieva (5th)
7) Anna Chakvetadze (8th)
8) Svetlana Kuznetsova (4th)
9) Patty Schnyder (12th)
10) Tamarine Tanasugarn (37th)

Tickets are still available for all days and they are, for the most part, reasonably priced. Don't forget that July 27th is Uniprix Family Day and everyone entering via the north entrance will get free admission.

Besides the tennis there are other different activities taking place during this hectic week, such as the induction of Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario on July 29th into the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame, celebrity matches, free tennis lessons, Fast Serve contest, Hit the Target with Rogers, the Valspar Performance Challenge (with the winner receiving a trip to the U.S. Open), mini tennis, dance and musical performances, autograph sessions, and daily interviews.
