You could say that music and performing was in Melissa Ferrick's DNA. Her father was a teacher who also managed a few jazz bands. As a young child Melissa would often go with her father to listen to them play. From the age of five she learned to play classical violin then piano and eventually trumpet, bass, guitar, and flugelhorn. After dropping out of Berkley she made music her full-time profession. By 1991 (she was born in 1970) her career was well underway with the opening slot to Morrissey's American tour.
When you listen to her music you will feel like you know her. And it is true. Melissa's lyrics are intimate, confessional and highly personal. She sings of love, heartache, the music industry, and social issues. Listening/watching her perform live you will be impressed by her powerful voice, accessibility and passion for what she does. Onstage she is full of energy and intense. You will often be blown away by her talent on the guitar.
As an independent artist her fanbase is the result of hard work and excellent word of mouth reviews. She has just recently released her fourteenth album.
