Joe Satriani Concert Preview

Beginning his career as Mick Jagger's guitarist on his solo tour in the late 1980s is not a bad start. Later Satriani went on to play with the likes of Deep Purple, G3, Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, and Spinal Tap. Starting off primarily as a guitar teacher he gained fame as starting off the careers of Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Charlie Hunter, and David Bryson (Counting Crows).

Like many young guitarists Satriani was influenced by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. After he heard them play he was inspired to quit football at age 14 and take up the guitar. This was a wise career move as it turned out and he has gone on to become one of the more respected rock guitarist going today. He was trained to play guitar by a jazz guitarist, but he has always veered toward the more hard rock genre in his work.

Technically proficient and often described as a guitar virtuoso, the man can do just about anything with a guitar. With 14 Grammy nominations and his own series of Ibanez guitars he is a living legend in the guitar world.
