Yes, you are reading correctly the Edmonton Eskimos are competing for the Eastern Conference title. This is the crazy world of the Canadian Football League and their crossovers. No matter the geographical confusion it should be a great game regardless.
The Alouettes ended the season in first place in the East and the Eskimos in last in the West, but don't let that fool you as each team had one win and one loss head-to-head. Edmonton had to beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to get this far whereas the Alouettes have been off for the past two weeks. The two teams did play each other three weeks ago (though Montreal rested most of its starters including quarterback Anthony Calvillo) with Edmonton coming out on top 37-14. As a result, Edmonton should be heading into this game full of confidence.
It should be an interesting game as the teams have two of the best quarterbacks, Calvillo and Ricky Ray, in the CFL. They should be interesting to watch go head-to-head.
On the Alouettes side there are plenty of questions. Will the three week layoff for Anthony Calvillo result in him being out of sync? Will the Montreal defence be up to the task? Will Avon Coburn last the game without getting injured? Will the Montreal defensive line be able to get any pressure on Ricky Ray? We'll have to wait until gametime to find out the answers to these and other questions. Some good news for the Als is that the injured players (Kerry Watkins, Damon Duval, Avon Coburne) are scheduled to play.
This will be an interesting match up between these two old foes and there are still some tickets left, so make sure you are there to see the game in person.
