During his over 40 year career in the music business Neil Young has become known as a great songwriter, a good guitar player, an activist, the grandfather of grunge, and a director. The man has plenty of creative juices flowing in his veins and he uses every last drop.
Starting off his career in the 1960s as a solo act then joining Buffalo Springfield, then after their breakup he was once again a solo act, then toured as Neil Young and Crazy Horse, then he joined Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, then once he left them he was again a solo act, then he reformed Crazy Horse and toured again with them, and so on and so on. All this to illustrate how the most creative people are usually the most difficult to work with. But they are the best to listen to and that is all you should be concerned with when going to a Neil Young concert. You know at one of his shows you will hear introspective lyrics, odes to his hometown of Winnipeg (born in Toronto and raised in Winnipeg) and several different styles of music – rock, country, folk, and alternative rock.
There is no other Canadian musician who has had so much influence on so many other musicians. From the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd to Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam to Nirvana and even Radiohead, these are just some of the artists who have said that he has influenced their music. He has also lent his talent to some of the causes he believes in including Live Aid, Farm Aid, Bridge School Concerts, and Live 8.
His show will be full of old and new music and plenty of songs calling for action. This is not a man who thinks its all right to sit idly by and watch the world go by. He uses his music as his soapbox to stand on and tell us what he thinks of this world. He will urge everyone who listens to "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World". Never a dull moment with Neil Young.
