Much to my surprise this Cuba Gooding Jr. straight-to-video movie was not too bad. The story was interesting and the acting was decent. Gooding Jr. has definitely been in and been worse in films…many!
United States Border patrol officer Michael Dixon (Cuba Gooding Jr. – Jerry Maguire, American Gangster) works the border between the U.S. and Mexico. This well-respected officer could have moved on to a higher profile assignment, but he seems to be quite content to live out in the desert with his wife (Sharon Leal – This Christmas, Dreamgirls) and young daughter, Emily. Unfortunately his fairly quiet life becomes anything but when his past catches up with him.
His old gang leader, Drake (Omari Hardwick – Miracle at St. Anna, Gridiron Gang) finally tracks him down and now his life along with those of his family are in danger. Drake wants Michael to smuggle drugs across the border for him. Michael now has to choose between his family's safety and the life he turned his back on years ago.
You have to be patient with the beginning of Kevin Bray's (Walking Tall, All About the Benjamins) film as it is a little slow. There are plenty of desolate desert scenes and not much dialogue. But when it gets going it is not half bad.
