Deep Winter

The film has great snowboarding/skiing and scenery, but not much else. The story is a bit hokey and the acting….well, is not the greatest. Fans of outdoor Warren Miller style films might take something positive out of it.

Tyrone Crowe (Eric Lively – American Pie, The Butterfly Effect 2) is a downhill racer on the United States ski team. He has all the talent, but because he takes too many risks he ends up not fulfilling his promise. After his latest crash he is tossed off the ski team, so he decides to go home. There he is meets up with his best friend and snowboarder Mark Rider (Kellan Lutz – Twilight, Prom Night) and hooks up with Rider's younger sister, Elisa (Peyton List – The Greatest Game Ever Played).

Soon enough the old friends are making a film together in Alaska. There they will start on a descent on the most dangerous mountain led by veteran guide, Dean (Michael Madsen – Scary Movie 4, Sin City). The risk and challenges they will face will be incredible and very dangerous.

Despite all the high speed skiing/snowboarding scenes the film is a little on the slow side. The romance is a little forced and boring. As far as scripts go this one is very predictable; there is not one moment of the film that you can't see coming.

A positive thing is the music; it is really great. And of course, the skiing/snowboarding and cinematography. It looks great and especially fun to watch the action scenes. I would not blame anyone for just fast forwarding to the hilltop scenes.
