The majority of this Montreal band has known each other since the age of 12. This adds much to the comfort level and the understanding of where they want to go as a band.
Once The Stills were formed in 2000 they started playing gigs and writing songs. With the release of their debut album "Logic Will Break Your Heart" in 2003 they joined the ranks of present-day bands who have an 80s sound about them. Sounding like the younger brothers of 80s bands Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen, The Stills play a brand of rock that is best described as a mix of new wave and punk. Lately, however, they have gone even further back for their musical influences and now sport a kind of 70s rootsy sound. Some of the songs on their newest release "Oceans Will Rise" even have an anthemic feel to them. The Stills are a band who are not afraid to experiment.
The highlight (or most exposure) of their young careers, so far, must have been opening for Paul McCartney at his outdoor Quebec City gig in front of 270,000 people.
