Formed in Bassex, England in 1980, if you were a teenager in the 80s then you probably were a fan of this electro-pop band. With songs like “Enjoy the Silence”, “Behind the Wheel”, “People Are People”, and “Never Let Me Down Again” all over the radio they ruled the decade. The band has sold over 100 million albums and is definitely one of the more successful bands to come out of the 80s. They were dark, mysterious, goth-like while still producing music that you could dance to. Almost 30 years later they are still together and still making music.
Depeche Mode (named after a French fashion magazine) have influenced a whole generation of musical acts from Pet Shop Boys to The Killers to The Bravery to Franz Ferdinand. They have all cited the band as an influence on the music they make. Their songs have been covered by the likes of Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Coldplay, and A Perfect Circle.
Having survived drug problems, suicide attempts, mental problems, malignant tumors, and rehab stints to forge on and continuing to tour. Main members Dave Gahan (lead vocals) and Martin Gore (guitar, keyboards, vocals) are the driving force behind the band. They write the music and lyrics and are the faces of the band.
