The release date for this CD is scheduled for the beginning of September, but I thought I'd give you a heads up so you can keep a look out for it.
Formed in 1978, The Clean is one of the granddaddies of the New Zealand punk scene. They soon had bands emulating them not only in their home country, but around the entire punk music world. Fans must be excited because their last release came all the way back in 2001. It's been a long time coming.
They are obviously funny guys because the album is named after a soft drink that is a knockoff of Mr. Pibb's (available in the U.S.) which is a knockoff of Dr. Pepper. The album was recorded in both New Zealand and New York. Their sound can best be described as post-punk as they have some definite pop and folk elements to it. On their latest there are even some Eastern and African influences, especially in the guitar work, to be heard. They are a band that will always try to push musical boundaries.
