Piano rock band from England made up of three members: Tim Rice-Oxley (piano), Tom Chaplin (vocals) and Richard Hughes (drums). Unlike other pretend piano bands, Keane uses the piano as its main instrument rather than the guitar. Using distortion and different synthesizers they create a wall of sound just with the three of them.
Their first two albums "Under the Iron Sea" and "Hopes and Fears" did very well in the UK and decently on this side of the Atlantic. The two albums were voted to the Top 20 albums ever by readers of Q magazine. Besides Top 10 singles and millions in album sales the band is also involved in plenty of charitable organization. Participating in events by War Child, Band-Aid, Make Poverty History, Live Earth, and Live 8 they have a large social conscience.
With the release of their third album, "Perfect Symmetry", they moved towards a more guitar-oriented sound. The album also has more of a pop sound to it. You can hear the influences of their favourite bands like a-ha, Beatles, U2, Radiohead, Queen, and Pet Shop Boys on many of the songs.
