Two Brit throwbacks for the price of one is a great deal if you ask me. Happy Mondays and The Psychedelic Furs are touring together and make a stop in town at the intimate confines of Club Soda. It is your chance to see them up close and personal.
The Happy Mondays formed in Manchester in 1980 and became an important part of the rave culture of that city in the 80s and very early 90s. Using indie guitars coupled with house, funk and soul beats, their music became popular with DJs and club kids around the world. Despite several break ups and lineup changes the band managed to stay a part of the British dance music culture.
If you were into alternative music in the 1980s then I'm sure you were a fan of the Furs. Who did not like "Pretty in Pink"? My God, there was even a film with the same title. One of those rare British acts who managed to find success on both sides of the Atlantic, The Psychedelic Furs were staples on college radios and modern rock radio. They were cool and everyone who listened to them were considered cool by association. The Psychedelic Furs were able to maintain their cool factor at the same time they were achieving mainstream success. This is rare. The pressures felt while trying to replicate this success led to the band's break up in the 90s. Apart for the better part of a decade they got back together in 2000 and now continue touring the world.
