Let's get it out of the way. Yes, the lady did drop an amazing amount of weight. Let's move on. The woman is a true Canadian music icon. Over the course of her career she has released 9 albums, charted 17 Top 10 singles, won many awards, has a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame, authored books, hosted comedy shows, acted, and even done plenty of charity work.
Jann Arden's career has been steady as she goes. Never getting too large (the release of the single "Insensitive" is her only song that got her much attention south of the border), but never dipping too low. Her talent is undeniable. Great lyrics and a clear, beautiful voice. A steady fan base that appreciate her revealing and emotional lyrics, accessibility and great sense of humour.
This is your typical Arden album. With some songs just being okay, but others being brilliant. One thing that is noticeable is that she seems somehow 'calmer' (if that's the word) on the album. Maybe the title of the album, "Free", truly reflects her state of mind as it is coming through in her music. She remains with her feet planted firmly on the ground, but her music powerful.
It is the type of album that the more you listen to it the more you'll appreciate it.
