Tegan and Sara

This is the 6th album from the twin sisters from Canada who have amassed quite an impressive indie reputation over their careers. The theme of the album is romantic relationships (not a surprise), but the more obsessive side them.

What is a little different about the album is that (a surprise) this is the first album that they wrote together. When I really thought about that it wasn't too big a surprise as they really play up their love/hate relationship while onstage. As a result the album is a complex and contentious one. Because of the darker nature of the subject the music reflects that in its tone.

You'll still be captivated by their catchy choruses and notice the pulsating bass. They've shown a willingness to experiment musically on the album as well as use some electronica influences. The music can still be categorized as indie-pop, but with darker undertones.
