Switchfoot's seventh studio album was a difficult one for them as they had around 100 songs written and then had to pare it down to the 12 that made the cut. What they came up with were 12 songs that do not sound like every second one on the radio. There is certainly something different about this band.
On your first listen the album will get your toes tapping, but it is only on subsequent listens where you will get the full impact. Whether the song is a mellow one or up tempo the music and lyrics have depth to them. There is a pervasive message of hope even in the darkest of times. Plenty of spiritual stuff to be found. Musically the band tries their hands at several different styles with some grunge, arena anthems and alternative rock on the album.
