Amazingly enough this British band has been around for 27 years. The trio formed at school in Essex and is made up of Vaughn (Bon) Harris – synthesizers, vocals, drums, Douglas McCarthy – vocals and David Gooday – drums. With their post-industrial sound, the band chose their name because it sounded like harsh German, but it doesn't really mean anything.
Using heavy basslines and drumbeats, an accessible electronic sound and McCarthy's either spoken, shouted or sung vocals, Nitzer Ebb expanded on the sounds created by post-punk bands. Their sound went on to influence the whole Detroit Techno movement and DJs like Tiga and Richie Hawtin.
After years of touring and being critical darlings the band sorta drifted apart after their tour in support of their 1995 album "Big Hit". Though they never officially broke up they did not record any music or work together either.
Recently we've been hearing their music make a comeback in clubs where DJs have started playing their songs again. They played a bunch of live shows during 2006 and 2007 and plan to release an album of new material in 2010.
