Ani DiFranco is one prolific artist. Over the course of her career Ani has released over 20 albums. This well respected artist has built up a very loyal fanbase over the years due to her ability to write songs that move people and her constant touring. Over the first 15 years of her career she toured almost continuously, so much so that she developed tendonitis and had to take a small break in 2005. She began her career busking at age nine and moved on to playing Beatles covers in small clubs as she got a little older.
Born in Buffalo, New York, the Grammy Award winner, besides being a talented musician, is also an active feminist. A bisexual she has written beautiful songs of love about both sexes and her embracing who she is has given others the courage to do the same. Ani has championed everything from gay rights to abortion rights during her career. Way back in 1989 she started her own label, before it was what everyone did, called Righteous Babe Records.
Known as a great guitar player she generally uses a signature staccato style while often using speaking as opposed to singing. Her music can be classified as folk rock, but really crosses over several genres. Over the course of her career she has collaborated with the likes of Prince, Dar Williams, Cyndi Lauper, and Maceo Parker.
