Name a type of artistic endeavour and I bet you that Henry Rollins has done it. The man started his career as the lead singer of hardcore punk band Black Flag and then moved on to a solo career. Now he has expanded his resume to include some acting, spoken word performances, radio DJ, stand up comedian, writer, publisher, television show host, and activist. There is nothing this guy hasn't tried.
Starting off as a fan of California punk band Black Flag and then becoming the permanent lead singer was quite a career move for a guy who had dropped out of college and worked at various minimum wage jobs. Onstage he was like a panther in a cage and you could not take your eyes off of him. Pacing, cutting an imposing figure and growling, Rollins was totally in control.
After Black Flag broke up in 1986 Rollins formed his own band, the Rollins Band. A recognizable punk band, the Rollins Band did Woodstock 94 and Lollapalooza. It was during this period that he began to experiment with spoken word performances. His work was recognized as he won a Grammy for Spoken Word Performance.
This tour he will not be singing rather it is a spoken word tour. Be prepared as this is not your usual spoken word performance. Henry Rollins is one interesting and passionate guy.
