Mutek Preview

The 11th edition of Mutek is taking place at the beginning of June. Mutek is a festival that shines the spotlight on digital technology and electronic music. There are several different 'events' or evenings that make up Mutek each featuring something a little bit different, so there is something for all types of electronic music fans.

A/Visions are nights of innovative musical collaborations. The artists are local and international. They are cutting edge evenings that allow artists to express themselves under a theme. Themes this year include "Pandora's Musical Box", "The Cult of Longer Memories", "Sublime Distortion", and "Live Wires". Nocturnes are nightly concerts and this year you can catch acts like Matias Aguayo, Mouse on Mars, Chris Hreno, Ikonika, and Dixon. Experience nights mesh music with audio visual presentations. Ectoplasmes are evenings that experiment and explore sounds. And finally, Piknics (which are well known outdoor events that happen the summer long in Montreal) take place outdoors at Parc Jean Drapeau and allow electronic music lovers to enjoy music and the great summer weather in Montreal.

For the first time this year Mutek will feature a free outdoor event. The night of music under the stars is happening on Jeanne Mance between de Maisonneuve and Ste. Catherine streets. It is entitled "Around the World" with Senor Coconut & his Orchestra. Senor Coconut is actually German producer Uwe Schmidt, a superstar in the electronic music world. Opening acts on this night of fun and music will be Jean-Phi Concalves, Alex McMahon and Martin Lizotte also known as Le Golden.
