The Silence of the Lambs – Blu-ray Edition

Over fifteen years ago a film came out that gave a huge boost to the careers of the two lead actors and the director. Besides doing big business at the box office, "The Silence of the Lambs" won Oscars for Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Demme (Philadelphia, Married to the Mob). It also won for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Based on the best-seller by Thomas Harris (Hannibal, Red Dragon), the film gave birth to one of the most scary characters in all of cinematic history, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Anthony Hopkins was the perfect man to bring this role to the screen. His intelligence and impeccable cadence while delivering his lines renders his character so scary that it will make your skin crawl. This is not to say that Jodie Foster does not do an equally good job. The fear she is able to portray simply with her eyes is amazing. You know everything her character thinks and feels with these looks.

Director Jonathan Demme does an excellent job of allowing these two actors build the tension with their verbal exchanges. The dark and gloomy cinematography is also spot on. The script is an excellent one, written by Oscar winner Ted Tally (All The Pretty Horses), with many twists and turns which will keep you on the edge of your seat. As a film it is exciting, disturbing, suspenseful, and good until the last drop! If you have not seen it rush out to get this most ultimate of horrors in stunning Blu-ray.

A psychopathic serial killer is named Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine – Memoirs of a Geisha, Ali) is murdering young women in the Midwest area of the United States. FBI Agent Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn – Freedom Writers, The Shipping News) has assigned Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster – Taxi Driver, The Accused) to the case and she believes that the best way to catch this guy is to confer with jailed serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins – Bobby, Nixon).

Dr. Lecter was a psychiatrist turned serial killer who cannibalized his victims. The man is incredibly bright and only agrees to help Clarice if she tells him intimate details about her life. Hesitant at first, Clarice agrees realizing that Lecter is her best chance to get into the mind of a serial killer and capture Buffalo Bill.

As they become more involved Clarice begins to go over painful events in her life and learns much about herself in the process. She realizes that she has repressed much of her own pain and her life is ruled by these demons. The clock is ticking as Clarice has to gain Lecter's trust and gather all of his insights into something cogent before Buffalo Bill kills again.
