Top 10 High Tech Gadgets of 2010

Gadgetry is something that both sexes are into. In our hustle and bustle world nobody wants or has the time to be left behind. We are constantly looking for faster computers, phones that do more and smaller laptops. It is a dog eat dog world out there when it comes to electronics and no one wants to be left behind. Here, in no particular order, are the hottest high-tech gadgets this year:

1) Portable Reader: Who wants to carry around those burdensome things called books. I mean, Tolstoy's War and Peace is huge! So technology has come up with something to alleviate that by developing the portable reader. It is a wireless electronic device that will allow you to read your favourite novel, newspaper or magazine anyplace and anytime. Small and lightweight with adjustable font size and most have batteries that support 4-5 days of continuous use. How did we live without them? More and more companies are coming out with their versions of this puppy.

2) Tablet Computers: Apple iPad was the first but other companies like Cisco and LG are introducing their own versions of this latest in the evolution of portable computers. These things are tiny and as such highly portable. When it was released the iPad sold like hotcakes – 3 million sold in less than 3 months. Though not as powerful as a regular laptop you can still browse the web, watch video, listen to music, play games, and do instant messaging. There are already over 11,000 applications available for the iPad. IPad is the first affordable one but it won't replace your laptop.

3) iPhone 4: There were over 600,000 pre-orders in one day for this latest version of the super popular touchscreen smartphones. Though I would hold out for a later generation of this phone as there have been some problems with the present version, I am sure that is not going to stop people from rushing out and buying it.

4) Powermats: Who has time to recharge their electronic devices. This cuts that time down and is easier to use. No more searching for chargers and the constant plugging and unplugging. These puppies are wireless. On certain models you can charge multiple electronic devices at the same time. Very practical when you are traveling.

5) 3D Televisions: I'm not completely sold on this one. I have heard people who have watched sporting events in 3D saying that it just gave them a headache and did not really give you a better perspective. Plus are we really going to sit in our living rooms with those silly glasses on. And the high cost of the televisions do not make them accessible to the masses. Didn't we just get blu-ray? Whatever I believe, 3D televisions are getting a big push from television makers like Sharp, Sony, LG, Panasonic, and Samsung.

6) Active Video Games: Move over Wii here comes an even more active version of video gaming. These things will make video gaming a more social event and will still get you up off your couch. Sony has developed a version with a motion sensor wand and Microsoft has one with a 3D camera system that has totally eliminated the need for a gamepad. Your body is now the controller.

7) Netbooks: These tiny versions of laptops broke out last year and will continue to get smaller and gain in popularity. Because of their small size they are easy to carry around and lightweight. Plus now the battery life on some will reach the 9 hour range. Getting work done wherever you are will be easier.

8) Apple iPod Nano – 8G: This is the 5th generation of this popular mp3 player. It is now so much more that just a music player. While it still features a music player it also now comes with a video player, an advanced photo viewer, FM tuner, voice recorder, and pedometer. It will even count your steps! What will they think of next?! It can store up to 4,000 songs and has a continuous playing time of 24 hours.

9) Nespresso Delonghi EN680: Yes, a coffee maker. Drinking coffee has become such an integral part of this go, go, go world we live in this maker deserves a place on the list. Using a jug to make the coffee instead of the usual vapour tube is what makes this one stand out from the rest. It also features a large water reservoir that is easy to fill up. That plus the fact that it makes an excellent cup of coffee. Most impressive is the built in cleaning system that you activate with the press of one button.

10) Hi-Def Digital Camcorders: Digital camcorders that will mesh perfectly with your high definition television are going to be huge this year. It will allow you to put high quality videos on YouTube. The prices are starting to come down on them making them more accessible to more people. They record to flash memory cards like those used in your digital cameras and also now fit in your hand.
