If you have a kid or kids at home that are 6 and under then you know what Yo Gabba Gabba is already. For those of you who don't, it is a kids' television show airing on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and Treehouse in Canada. Since it premiered in 2007 it has been a hit with the young kids. Now it has gone on to become a cult type hit with young adults as well. These people, as well as the kids who watch it, are attracted by the brightly coloured retro styled costumes (In 2008 it received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design/Styling), simple concept and catchy music. Big musical acts have made guest appearances on the show like The Shins, Biz Markie, The Roots, Mya, Sean Kingston, The Ting Tings, and MGMT.
Hosted by a character named DJ Lance Rock, Yo Gabba Gabba has live-action skits as well as costumed characters. It was developed and written by two dads from Southern California who had no previous television experience. When they became fathers they were quite disappointed by what they found on TV for their kids, so they decided to make their own. And that, as they say, is all she wrote.
