Born in 1975 Lauryn Noel Hill began her career with the band The Fugees. After some mainstream success with them in 1998 she struck out on her own and released her monster album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill". It was a huge hit and earned her five Grammy Awards including Best New Artist and Album of the Year.
Despite all this success Hill did not appreciate the inner workings of the music industry and has never really been comfortable with fame. As a result, she pretty much dropped off the radar. After four years out of the spotlight she released MTV Unplugged 2.0. Recorded basically on acoustic guitar, the album was her last release.
Mother of five children with Rohan Marley, son of reggae legend Bob Marley, she is now embarking on a small North American tour and there are rumours flying around that she is going to finally record a follow up record.
Hill has also acted for most of her life. She started off on the soap opera As the World Turns then went on to star in a couple of films like Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, Hav Plenty and Restaurant.
She has toured a couple of times over the past ten years and not always to rave reviews. Showing up hours late for shows and then not really offering any kind of excuse has tried the patience of even her most ardent of fans. The lateness combined with her insistence on redoing her songs so they are unrecognizable has also irked fans. So attend a Lauryn Hill show at your own peril.
