NYPD Blue: Season 3

If you are one of the few who have not watched this acclaimed, long-running (12 seasons), ground-breaking, and successful police drama seize the opportunity to watch it at your leisure in the comfort of your own home. Without the nuisance of commercials, as well! The 15th precinct in New York is the base for this gritty, sexy, edgy series which gives us an insight into the trials and tribulations of the human beings who make up New York's finest. A highlight of this the third season, which aired originally in 1995-96, is Dennis Franz's (City of Angels, Die Hard 2) tough but heartbreaking performance as the rough but loveable Detective Andy Sipowicz for which he won his second Emmy. The gruff Detective Sipowicz was first partners with the calm, cool and collected John Kelly (David Caruso – Jade, Proof of Life) and now is paired up with Bobby Simone (Jimmy Smits – Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Running Scared). The precinct is run by the able Lieutenant Arthur Fancy (James McDaniel – Malcolm X,), the precinct receptionist is Donna Abandando (Gail O'Grady – Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo, She's Having a Baby), and other detectives include James Martinez (Nicholas Turturro – The Longest Yard, Excess Baggage), Greg Medavoy (Gordon Clapp – Rules of Engagement, Gross Anatomy), Adrienne Lesniak (Justine Micelli – Dangerous Beauty), and Diane Russell (Kim Delaney – Mission to Mars, That Was Then…This Is Now). There are also the reoccurring or guest roles by well-known actors such as Benita Alden (Melina Kanakaredes – from television's Providence), Billy (Sam Rockwell – The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind), LaVonna Runnels (Jasmine Guy – Guinevere, Madeline), Mary Donaldson (Mackenzie Phillips – The Jacket, American Graffiti), Farrell McLeary (Jessica Tuck – from television's Judging Amy), Angie (Ana Gasteyer – from television's Saturday Night Live), and (Leah Remini – from television's The King of Queens). This is a series that is blessed with great acting, scripts and direction.

In this season's 22 episodes we follow Sipowicz and Simone as their partnership and friendship becomes stronger and stronger. The season starts off with a bang with Detective Martinez getting shot. Sipowicz finally finds love with Assistant D.A. Sylvia Costas (Sharon Lawrence – Little Black Book, Gossip) and they have a child. Then you feel your heart break as he lives through the grisly murder of his older son Andy Jr. (Michael DeLuise – The Man Without A Face, Encino Man). After Sipowicz self-destructs, Simone does everything humanly possible to make sure he does not throw away his life, marriage and job. Season 3 is the beginning of NYPD Blue really becoming one of the best police dramas ever on television.
