Pacino: An Actor’s Vision

This is the type of DVD collection that is done for Academy Award winning actors only. It is not the type of collection that is going to appeal to a wide audience as it is lesser known films, but will be of interest mainly to young actors/directors and film buffs. The collection features three films directed by Al Pacino in which he also acts in and a documentary. Of interest is that each of the films is introduced and has an epilogue by Pacino himself, so you get added insight into the film.

Babbleonia: A Documentary:

This retrospective of Pacino's career is directed by the man himself. We hear the tale of Pacino long successful career in his own words. We go through his career and get an idea of how passionate he is about the craft of acting, especially how he adores the theatre. We see why he is respected by both fans and fellow actors.

This documentary is available only in this collection.

Looking For Richard:
Director: Al Pacino

In his directorial debut, Al Pacino makes a film about his trials and tribulations in trying to film Shakespeare's Richard III. This is a play about an evil, deformed king who is blinded by his desire for power.

Pacino is Richard III and his co-stars include Winona Ryder, Kevin Spacey, Alec Baldwin, and Aidan Quinn. We shadow the cast and crew of the film around as the rehearse and we see all that goes into the staging of the production. Pacino is helped in his quest by famous Shakespearean actors such as Sir John Gielgud, Kenneth Branagh, Vanessa Redgrave, James Earl Jones, and Kevin Kline. We really get to go behind the scenes with this documentary.

The Local Stigmatic:
Directors: Al Pacino and David F. Wheeler

Graham (Al Pacino) is an East-End Englishman who is obsessed with betting on greyhound races and celebrities. He lives with a roommate, Ray (Paul Guilfoyle – from television's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), who is definitely a quieter guy, but who tries his hardest to help Graham with whatever he's cooked up.

They meet a famous actor and Graham, who is quite devious, decides to test Ray's loyalty by coming up with a plan to attack the actor. There is no real reason to do this other than Graham's obvious envy of the actor. Everything comes to a shocking conclusion.

Chinese Coffee:
Director: Al Pacino

So far unsuccessful and broke author Harry Levine (Al Pacino) wants his best friend, Jake (Jerry Orbach – from television's Law and Order) to read his manuscript. At first Jake denies having read it despite having it for a long time and when he eventually admits that he has read it Jake sees the novel as a betrayal of their friendship. This causes Harry to rethink everything he has believed in. As the nightlong discussion continues the two are completely honest with one another about everything under the sun and it ends up endangering their friendship.
