Who does not know the famous chorus from the band’s hit single “Living on a Prayer”? “Woah, we’re halfway there. Woah, living on a prayer.” They have been around forever, have sold hundreds of millions of albums and have written rock anthem after rock anthem for the past 27 years. Unlike many rock bands their lineup has pretty much stayed the same for the entire time with the only change being in 1994 when bassist Alec John Such left and was replaced by Hugh McDonald. Other than that it has been smooth sailing. Maybe it is because the band has been smart enough to take little “breaks” from each other periodically (without breaking up) in which lead vocalist Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora used to go off and record solo albums or act in films.
Together they have released 11 studio albums, three compilation albums, one live album, played in 50 countries, done over 2,600 live shows, been inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame, been granted the Award of Merit by the American Music Awards, Bon Jovi and Sambora were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and have been nominated for the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. In other words, they are a monster act that has done pretty much everything.
You can be sure to hear songs like “Living On a Prayer”, “Bed of Roses”, “It’s My Life”, “Runaway”, “You Give Love a Bad Name”, and “Wanted Dead or Alive” over the course of their two back-to-back shows this weekend. There are not many tickets left for the shows and they are in the nosebleed sections, but fear not as the boys from New Jersey have already announced that they will be coming back to Montreal for another show in early May.
