As part of the Montreal High Lights Festival British band Morcheeba (means the way of cannabis) will play a show at Metropolis. The trio's, brothers Paul (DJ) and Ross (multi-instrumentalist) Godfrey and vocalist Skye Edwards, music is a mix of trip hop, rock, R&B, and pop.
In 1996 trip hop was really fashionable and the band released their debut album, "Who Can You Trust?". The sound of the album really centered around Edwards' relaxed and soulful vocals, piano, guitar, DJ scratching. With their next release a couple of years later the band veered more towards pop music and with the release and subsequent success of the single "The Sea" the band became a worldwide success.
As is usual with bands, the lineup changed a bit over the next seven years. Edwards was asked to leave Morcheeba in 2003 due to "musical differences". Former Noonday Underground singer, Daisy Martey, was recruited to be the band's new vocalist. She didn't last long as she was fired during the promotional tour for the album, "The Antidote". Martey was briefly (just for tour dates) replaced with Jody Sternberg. In 2008 the now duo released an album featuring a variety of guest vocalists. Finally coming full circle, early on in 2010 it was announced that Edwards was once again a member of Morcheeba. Able to follow all that? It is a bit like Days of Our Lives.
The together once again trio released their seventh studio album, "Blood Like Lemonade" in 2010 and are now touring in support of it.
