On the strength of one humungous single, “You’re Beautiful”, James Blunt became a worldwide star during the year of 2005. Playing smaller venues at first he is now popular enough to be playing wherever he pleases.
His debut album “Back to Bedlam” was a huge seller and got him 5 Grammy Award nominations. Suffering no sophomore slump his second album “All the Lost Souls” released in 2007 was certified gold in its first week of release. The first single “1973” went on to be an even bigger hit than “You’re Beautiful”. Not bad for a guy who originally was slated to have a military career.
If you want to lump his music into a sound category, I guess he would be slotted in with the likes of David Gray and Damien Rice. Really and truly he has his own unique sound. It is soft and acoustic, but unlike anything anyone else is doing. It cannot be said to be pop or rock. Maybe it’s time to make a new category?
Armed with his perfect stubble, an acoustic guitar and heartfelt lyrics Blunt is a massive pop star. He is a little guy from England who now dates supermodels and makes the girls in his audience sigh. It’s a tough career but someone has to do it.
Unfortunately this show is sold out.
